My mystery date with…

Today’s post is something very special and beyond exciting. I’m so happy and thankful that Fernanda at mysterydatewithabook.co.uk decided and offered people reading her blog to contact her if interested in doing a project together. I think that her action is something very noble, creative, kind and something to take notice of and imitate.

When seeing her proposal of working together, I couldn’t pass it up and so Fernanda and I came up with interviewing each other. I was really interested to see what she’s going to ask me and I enjoyed forming my questions for her. Doing this was a really positive experience not only because it’s something new and different but also because she is kind, creative, smart and we had a lot of fun corresonding.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Bookworm, unique, sensitive

What’s your biggest fear?

OK, so I’m TERRIFIED of rodents. Even writing down the »R« word gives me the creeps! I’m not 100% sure where this fear came from, but everyone in my family seems to have a different theory about it.

Is there a question you don’t like being asked (for example, when it comes to books)?

Easy. »Where are you from?« I could never give a one-word answer to that question. I mean, do they want to know where I was born? Where I grew up? Where I live right now? For someone who went to 13 different schools and lived in 4 different countries so far, that’ll always be a hard question to answer.

Is there a book genre you can’t force yourself to read?

I’m such a big baby when it comes to scary books and films. Once I watched Donnie Darko and I couldn’t sleep for about 2 weeks! Now, if 2 hours worth of film will affect me for 2 weeks, imagine what a 20-hour long book would do to me?!

What is your favorite genre to read? What about to write?

I’m very much into Young Adult books right now. That goes for both reading and writing. I think YA books are usually more imaginative than your average adult book, which are often either romance or contemporary stories. I have nothing against contemporary books but if I want to read a book to escape from my day-to-day (contemporary) life I’d rather escape to a different time period, different galaxy, somewhere completely different from what I see around me on a daily basis.

Where do you prefer to read and write?

I usually read in bed and write on the sofa, while trying not to get distracted by whatever my parents are watching then. Maybe that’s why it’s taking me so long to write my book! Haha!

What was the moment when you knew you wanted to be a writer?

Ooh, that’s a tough one. I’m not sure. Well, my dad has written and self-published a book (Voices from the Walls by JC Lara) and my mum is in the process of writing a YA book (which I keep pestering her to finish already, because I read the first chapter and I can tell it’s going to be amazing!), so I guess it was just a matter of time before I started writing my own book…

Can you tell us something about the book you’re writing?

Now, it’s all very hush hush at the moment, because it’s nowhere near finished. All I can say is that it’s a Young Adult distopian story set in the not so distant future. Oh, and it involves quite a lot of water! (I’m fantastic at giving clues, aren’t I? Haha!)

Is there something you want to include in all of your future works?

I’m not sure I do, to be honest. I’m still a newbie, writing my very first book. It’s still early days, but I think every book should come from a place of inspiration. So you never know, I might feel like writing something completely different in the future (maybe even a horror story!).

Do you include a part of your own personality into the story?

Definitely! Before I knew it my main character was basically a fictional version of me… Haha! So needless to say I had to go back and change a few things. Apart from that obvious rookie mistake, I think most writers leave a bit of their soul in their writing (by which I don’t mean a horcrux!). If you do something (anything) that you love, you can’t help but put your heart and soul into it.

Do you prefer reading/writing happy or sad endings?

Oh happy endings for sure! I’m all for emotional drama to happen throughout the story but when you get to the end of a story you need a bright, happy ending to lift you up, don’t you?

If you were stranded on an island and could only bring 3 things, what would they be?

Ooohh, I always struggle to answer questions like that, but I love it anyway! Haha! Let me see, I think I’d bring… a massive book, a truckload of food, and a raft 😀
